Proceed down the main aisle and stop at the foot of the sanctuary. From this point you are able to see the whole interior of the Cathedral. (As you tour, notice the various depictions of angels; there are over fifty of them portrayed!)
The Sanctuary
The sanctuary has an inlaid parquet floor. The main altar is on a marble floor.
The Altar of Sacrifice, as well as the other two altars, are made from Carrara marble (an Italian quarry).
The cathedra is the bishop's throne and sits behind the main altar.
Twelve apostles are depicted in the murals of the sanctuary arch, with the Holy Spirit in the center depicted as a dove.
On the right is the Altar of Reservation, on which stands a bronze tabernacle, in which is housed the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
To the left of main altar is the Marian Altar. The most stunning feature of this altar is the mosaic of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus, containing over 20,000 pieces of glass!
Along the walls are the fourteen stations of the cross. The first nearest the Marian Altar.
The Cathedral was dedicated on May 30, 1899 and has seen four remodelings
